Reflux in Babies & Children | Melbourne

Reflux is a condition that involves vomiting/regurgitation of gastric contents.

Silent reflux is a condition where children do not vomit, but appear to be irritable after feeds.

We will look closely for an allergy profile (eg. positive family history, particularly of cow's milk/soy protein allergy), any signs of hunger that could present as unsettled behaviours after feeding, any signs that the child simply wants to sleep after feeding (ie, crying due to tiredness, rather than pain), and determine if the child simply has an immature gut (ie. short abdominal segment of the eosophagus).

In some cases, no medical cause can be found, and 'immature gut' is diagnosed. However, many paediatricians believe this diagnosis should only be made after a full holistic examination is performed.
